The Way is Trying – 1

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

He is the LORD; let him do what is good in his eyes. … Though I were innocent, I could not answer him; I could only plead with my Judge for mercy. … Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised. … Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble? … Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both calamities and good things come?

Jesus wept. … He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering. … A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.

The Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son. … No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. … Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience. … You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. … I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
