He is found

So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

He was lost

The younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.

The Lord takes the upright into his confidence

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

“Be strong and work. For I am with you,” declares the Lord Almighty

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. … I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on

Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes

There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. … He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.

They triumphed … by the blood of the Lamb

It is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life. … I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. … In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. … God presented Christ as a sacrifice

As we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

My heart pounds, my strength fails me

My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. … Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Scorn has broken my heart  and has left me helpless

I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.
